Golf Simulator Space Requirements

Understanding the space you need before building your dream simulator setup

Single-Handed Simulator Requirements

Minimum Measurements:
2.65m Height × 3.5m Width × 5m Depth

Why?

Height: A minimum of 2.65m is required to accommodate enclosures (minimum 2.6m high). Anything lower will restrict your swing, especially with longer clubs.

Width: Width determines whether you can swing comfortably. At 3.5m, you’ll have just 1.75m either side, which may feel tight. To compensate, you can offset the hitting position slightly (no more than 30cm) — but offsetting too far risks projector alignment, shanks, or an unnatural swing path.

Depth: Allow 30cm behind the enclosure for screen flex, and ensure at least 2.7m between the ball and screen to avoid striking the frame during follow-through. With these factors, a total depth of 5m is truly the minimum.

Takeaway:
These dimensions are based on years of experience building customer simulators. They ensure proper use and safety. Because custom simulator packages are non-returnable, it’s vital to measure and test your swing comfort in your space before purchasing.

Left & Right-Handed Simulator Requirements

Minimum Measurements:
2.65m Height × 4.5m Width × 5m Depth

Why?

Height and depth requirements remain the same as a single-handed simulator, but width becomes the key challenge. Launch monitors have narrow hitting zones, so both left and right-handed players must share the centreline.

As an example, a room at 3.8m wide, each golfer gets about 1.9m between ball and wall which uncomfortably tight. At 4.5m, each player has 2.25m of swing space, suitable for most golfers. Some exceptions exist — for example, smaller left-handed players or wider hitting zones (60cm+) may allow setups as narrow as 4.2m, but this must be tested in advance
